I learnt about CSS (I have never done any CSS training before) and how that can make a big difference to the design of a HTML page. I learnt how to include CSS and Javascript into a HTML page. I have also learnt how browsers read a HTML page, and found the DOM fascinating. The main thing I have learnt is that javascript is what makes a web page come to life – simple clicks of buttons or filling in forms are all part of the javascript language and there are many ways in which you can write javascript. The tools and resources I have been provided with in this course have been useful and will continue to be useful for me as I develop my skills in this area further. The most beneficial part of this course was to have a teacher and attend class sessions, where it was much easier to get a grasp of the programming language as often I found the books too confusing. I intend to continue with learning more about coding and programming. Thank you for this opportunity to participate in this course. It has been a worthwhile and enjoyable experience.” Nicole Marzan, Port Macquarie-Hastings Council More feedback for our amazing IT teacher Humam Al Kinani. • It was very cool to watch our film students present their short films at today’s screening at Port Mac TAFE. “I’m pretty happy with it, especially for a student film, I didn’t think I’d like it but I’m really happy with it,” Kirsty Aitken said after the showing of the film her team created, The Stranger. The Stranger begins with a Pokémon Go player strolling through the park, engrossed in his game. It has a morbid finish with a vampire in a car park teaching the player why it’s best not to talk to strangers. The team commented that it took time to get used to the lighting for night shoots and that they learned a lot in the special effects department. “I don’t like watching myself but I like the film and we had a really good time,” lead actor Jayden Monkley said. The second film, It’s Just A Prank, Bro, is a horror film shot in a hotel room with a practical joke turning closer to reality than intended. The film includes a flying ghost that pays testament to the special effects the students learned. “The way we edited the film as a team was pretty efficient and everyone had input on the creative side,” Jessica Witchard said, with team member Jay making the sinister music that added dramatic flair to the film. Both films made clever use of the specialised make-up students who were enlisted to help with the shoot, producing theatrical and realistic film make-up that enhanced the stories. • “Hi Humam, Thank you very much for a very enjoyable course. I have learned a lot and you have inspired me to keep learning about programming and what can be done with code. You are a fabulous teacher and I’m very thankful for your passionate, patient and inclusive teaching style. Your calm and enthusiastic manner created a wonderful class atmosphere. The class parted as friends, with everyone looking forward to meeting outside this course to share our knowledge and interests. Cheers, Leo Meier.” We were very humbled to hear this about our IT teacher Humam Al Kinani who taught a programming course recently at Port Macquarie TAFE. • When the Australian women's under 22s indoor cricket team recently competed at the 2016 Trans-Tasman Indoor Cricket Championships in Port Macquarie recently, the competition presented an exciting opportunity for massage students at Port Macquarie TAFE. The Diploma of Remedial Massage students were put in charge of the post-event massage on the athletes after they won the Trans-Tasman trophy. But their brush with the high--profile sports teams didn't stop there. The New Zealand open men's cricket team also competed at the Indoor Cricket Championships. Our budding massage gurus conducted inter-event massages on the athletes between their training session and their first game against the Australian men's indoor cricket team. It's an exciting place to study massage. To find out more about the Diploma of Remedial Massage at Port Mac TAFE, click here http://bit.ly/2cPsFnr
