About the course

Course Number: 10362NAT-01V01

If you are a newly arrived migrant, we have a number of English language courses designed to enable speakers of other languages to participate more fully in Australian community life, work and study. Our Certificate I in Spoken and Written English is designed for newly arrived migrants, residents and citizens who are beginner speakers of English language. Learners will start to develop skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing in English. They will also learn about services and information to help them to take part in further education and training, to seek and maintain work, and to participate in community life in Australia.

The course is free for those with Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) entitlement. AMEP is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training and has a number of flexible delivery options including in the community, via distance, home tutoring, or a combination of the three.

This pre-vocational program requires an appropriate level of English language proficiency and appropriate visa/citizenship, which will be determined by an ESOL teacher at a pre-enrolment interview/assessment. Students are required to bring their passports and visa documents to pre-enrolment. Students will be assessed via practical demonstrations, oral questioning, role play, written tasks and observation. Successful graduates are eligible to apply to study the Certificate II in Spoken and Written English.

Fees

North Coast TAFE offers a wide choice of courses, some that attract government subsidies and some that do not. The fees payable will vary, depending on your personal circumstances, your study history and the course you choose.

Calculate fees

Your government subsidised fee, and your eligibility for concessions, exemptions and scholarships, are all calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

The 2017 subsidised fees indicated on this page are indicative only and based on 2016 fees. The state government may make some small changes to fees and subsidies for 2017 enrolments and we will update our site if and when that happens.
