Would you like to be able to design and make simple clothes for yourself and your family whilst kick starting your career in fashion? If you are creative and have a strong interest in fashion and design, this is the course for you. This introductory course of study in fashion design could give you the skills to provide you with an ongoing sustainable income. Why not be paid for something you love doing?Learn hands-on skills and improve your confidence in producing design sketches, sewing basic patterns and assembling garments you have designed yourself. You can even create your own textile designs and incorporate these into your unique apparel.You will be provided with course notes and practical demonstrations on the tasks you will learn and will be supported by passionate and professional trainers with extensive experience in the industry. You will be required to purchase materials for some practical components of the course.Upon completion of this course you may wish to further advance your skills with the Certificate III Applied Fashion Design and Technology which is also available on campus or online through North Coast TAFE.

You do need to have, or be able to attain, a level of literacy and numeracy that will help you complete your course and ultimately to work in your chosen field.Students who complete this qualification level will gain the skills necessary to undertake routine activities and provide solutions to a limited range of predictable problems. Graduates will develop basic knowledge of an area of work and learning and will be able to talk and write about these.North Coast TAFE can provide support for reading, writing, maths and English Language. When you finish this course you may be eligible to do a higher level qualification in Applied Fashion Design and Technology.
Depending on your choice of electives you may be eligible to receive LMT11107 Certificate I in Textiles Clothing and Footwear (19550).
This course is intended as an introduction to the fashion industry, and will help you make an informed decision about pursuing further training for a career in the industry.
A TAFE NSW Certificate IV or Diploma could give you up 6 to 12 months advanced standing in a university degree and some Advanced Diplomas offer even more credit.
