About the course

Course Number: CUA30515-01V01

Are you interested interest in cultural arts and connecting with community? You will love our Certificate III in Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Cultural Arts. The course has been designed for people who want to explore career and community arts possibilities for their work groups or for personal development. Our staff work closely with the industry, local Land Councils and the local community to ensure our courses are relevant.

The Certificate teaches the basic creative and technical skills underpinning a range of art and craft techniques with electives selected for this offering in textiles, drawing, printmaking, sculpture and painting. Participants will also develop skills in collecting and organising information on cultural arts and one’s own Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage. Participants throughout the course of their studies have the opportunity to collaborate on projects in consultation with industry and local Land Councils and see their work become a permanent cultural addition to the communities and environments in which we live.

The local cultural knowledge necessary to achieve some of the units of competency in this qualification may only be accessible to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people. It is recommended prospective students meet the course co-ordinator prior to enrolment. Study is both campus class and home-based. Students will be assessed through assignments, projects, journals, observation, written tasks, short answer questions and portfolios.

This qualification is suitable for an Australian traineeship pathway.
