Are you working within the horticulture industry and looking to finesse your skills, or learn more about growing food crops? Are you looking to focus on organic farming? Our Certificate III in Production Horticulture (Organic Farming) could be the ideal course for you.The Certificate III in Production Horticulture is designed with industry consultation and is suited to people in the production horticulture industry or to those seeking employment who want to develop trade skills and knowledge to become operators within the industry.You will learn about safe work practices, as well as selected skills areas such as horticultural cropping, biosecurity, chemicals use, irrigation and drainage, hydroponics, machinery operations and maintenance and pest control.Learning is campus and/or work-based and is assessed through practical and written exercises. It is recommended that students have existing horticultural experience and/or employment. Due to the nature of the industry, physical fitness is required.

North Coast TAFE wants you to know that while this qualification has no formal entry requirements, we do want you to succeed, so we are providing information about the skills and knowledge that would help you complete this qualification. You do need to have, or be able to attain, a level of literacy and numeracy that will help you complete your course and ultimately to work in your chosen field. Students who complete this qualification level will have developed a range of technical and communication skills that will enable them to complete mostly routine tasks and interpret and act on information available to them. They will provide solutions to predictable and sometimes unpredictable problems and in a work setting may take some responsibility for the work of others.North Coast TAFE can provide support for reading, writing, maths and English Language. Graduates may go on to study higher level qualifications in the area of horticulture or undertake additional qualifications at the certificate III level to broaden their knowledge and skills in the industry.

A TAFE NSW Certificate IV or Diploma could give you up 6 to 12 months advanced standing in a university degree and some Advanced Diplomas offer even more credit.

Note: Some short, licensing or compliance courses, eg Food Safety for Supervisors or First Aid are not granted RPL as demonstrated competency is required by regulatory authorities.
