This is the qualification you need if you want to build a career in accounting, bookkeeping or payroll and other account support functions. You will learn how to prepare financial statements, apply professional practice and carry out business activity and instalment activity statement tasks; including using the computer program MYOB.The Certificate IV is the minimum requirement for accounting graduates who are self-employed and preparing Business Activity Statements (BAS) on behalf of clients. It is the only qualification fulfilling BAS requirements under the Tax Practitioners Board. After completing the Certificate IV in Accounting, graduates can seek traineeships in accounting or general office roles or go on to study more advanced accounting at diploma, advanced diploma or degree level. International students wanting to acquire essential accounting skills are also encouraged to apply.Licensing/Regulatory Information There is no direct link between this qualification and licensing, legislative and/or regulatory requirements. However, where required, a unit of competency will specify relevant licensing, legislative and/or regulatory requirements that impact on the unit.Persons providing a business activity statement (BAS) service must be registered by the Tax Practitioners Board and this qualification is currently cited as meeting the educational requirements for registration. Other conditions apply including a designated period of experience. Persons seeking BAS agent registration should check current registration requirements with the Board as this is reviewed regularly.

The primary pathway from this qualification is employment in accounting job roles with duties such as:- completing Business Activity Statements (BAS) and other office taxes- operational reporting- producing non-complex management reports including compiling budget information- compiling data for job costing reports- supervising the operation of computer-based financial systems- classifying, recording and reporting accounting information- maintaining inventory records- managing a small office- ensuring relevant legal requirements are adhered to.
A TAFE NSW Certificate IV or Diploma could give you up 6 to 12 months advanced standing in a university degree and some Advanced Diplomas offer even more credit.
