Are you looking for an excellent foundation in fashion design on which to base an exciting fashion career? TAFE NSW's Certificate IV in Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising will teach you skills in design, product development, business and merchandising for employment in design and production support roles in the clothing and fashion industry. You will learn to apply quality standards, identify fibres, fabrics and textiles, calculate cost estimates for fashion products, and liaise with fashion industry participants. You can also choose from a wide range of electives including the application of colour theory to fashion design development, application of advanced patternmaking principles, and use of electronic fashion design tools.
Electives also include the analysis of customer behaviour for specific fashion markets, planning and implementation of production, and the promotion of products and services. Enjoy work as an assistant designer, merchandising assistant or specialist production technician (such as a patternmaker or sewing machinist), or use your skills and knowledge as a basis for more advanced fashion design courses.
North Coast TAFE wants you to know that while this qualification has no formal entry requirements, we do want you to succeed, so we are providing information about the skills and knowledge that would help you perform this qualification. You do need to have, or be able to attain, a level of literacy and numeracy that will help you complete your course and ultimately to work in your chosen field. Students who complete this qualification level will have a broad range of skills and knowledge that can be applied to specialised and/or skilled work areas. A TAFE NSW Certificate IV or Diploma could give you up 6 to 12 months advanced standing in a university degree and some Advanced Diplomas offer even more credit.
