Are you a responsible person looking to enter the cooking industry or are you looking to advance your career as a chef? Our Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery could be the perfect course for you. This course will equip you with the skills required to not only work as a chef in a commercial context, but to also take on a supervisory role. In addition to learning to produce a range of dishes, you will learn valuable skills in menu planning, such as planning menus for special dietary requirements and ensuring the cost-effectiveness of menus.Is starting your own business in this industry something you aspire to? This course will help you develop the skills to support your dream. You will learn some fundamentals of leadership including, managing conflict, leading others, managing finances, coordinating cooking operations and a range of other techniques that will allow you to work effectively in a supervisory role or as the manager of your own business. Studying this course through North Coast TAFE means you will not only have the opportunity to cook with fresh produce grown on campus, but you will also gain valuable, practical experience in our fully-functional on-campus restaurants. Our on-campus restaurants are the ideal learning environments; you will gain insights into what working in a commercial kitchen is actually like by participating in live service periods (actual customers and time pressures).

You do need to have, or be able to attain, a level of literacy and numeracy that will help you complete your course and ultimately to work in your chosen field. Students who complete this qualification level will have a broad range of skills and knowledge that can be applied to specialised and/or skilled work areas. After achieving SIT40413 Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, individuals could progress to SIT50313 Diploma of Hospitality.

A TAFE NSW Certificate IV or Diploma could give you up 6 to 12 months advanced standing in a university degree and some Advanced Diplomas offer even more credit.
