About the course

Course Number: 10226NAT-01V01

If you have a language background other than English and are interested in pursuing post-Year 12 study, our Certificate IV in English for Academic Purposes has been designed to teach you the English language and academic study skills to successfully participate in higher learning. All North Coast TAFE English language teachers are highly qualified and experienced in teaching speakers of other languages. Most campuses have specialised English language classes, where the focus is on spoken, as well as written English language. Our campuses are well-equipped with resources, both paper-based and online. North Coast TAFE libraries have a wide collection of learning resources available for students. This qualification is part of our suite of English language courses, designed to enable speakers of other languages (including international students, newly arrived migrants, permanent and temporary residents, citizens and visitors) to participate more fully in Australian community life, work and study.

Our English language courses are practical, interactive and structured to meet the most essential needs of second language learners. Students are supported to develop pathways to professional work and/or further academic study.

The course requires an appropriate level of English language proficiency and appropriate visa/citizenship. This is determined by an ESOL teacher at a pre-enrolment interview/assessment, which requires students to provide their passport and visa documents. Students will be assessed on practical demonstrations, short answer questions, oral presentations, written tasks, portfolios, interviews and essays. Successful graduates will be eligible to apply for any post-Year 12 study, including diplomas or Bachelor's degrees.

North Coast TAFE offers a wide choice of courses, some that attract government subsidies and some that do not. The fees payable will vary, depending on your personal circumstances, your study history and the course you choose.

Calculate fees

Your government subsidised fee, and your eligibility for concessions, exemptions and scholarships, are all calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

The 2017 subsidised fees indicated on this page are indicative only and based on 2016 fees. The state government may make some small changes to fees and subsidies for 2017 enrolments and we will update our site if and when that happens.
