If you are looking to upgrade your qualifications to expand your employment opportunities as a master on commercial vessels, our Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 35 metres Near Coastal) is the third level Masters Certificate which allows you to operate as master on commercial vessels up to 35 metres in length anywhere in Australia. All teachers have years of maritime experience with most still working in the industry. State-of-the art facilities, combined with fully-flexible delivery means students can study when they want, where they want, coupled with full support from knowledgeable and experienced teachers. The Maritime section is fully accredited with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority for the delivery of maritime training. The maritime industry is very varied in nature: From eco-tourism, charter fishing, professional fishing, ferry operations, sightseeing tours and whale watching, employment opportunities are worldwide. If you have a passion for the water, boating or fishing the maritime industry is for you.With approved sea-time assessment, the successful completion of this course will enables you to obtain a Master up to 35 metres Certificate of Competency. During the Certificate, you will gain knowledge and skills in vessel-handling, navigation, seamanship, operating wheelhouse equipment, collision regulations, maintaining a navigational watch, manage vessel operations, stability, survival and fire-fighting. Subject to successful completion, the holder of this Certificate can Command a vessel <35 metres long in the exclusive economic zone or be master of a vessel < 80 m in in-shore waters.The course is taught via a combination of key note lectures, tutorial support, practical on-water sessions, helm room use and workplace delivery. There is an optional face-to-face option in Port Macquarie, the Coffs Harbour Education Campus, Maclean and Ballina. Students will be assessed on assignments, written tests and practicals. To enrol in the Certificate, you must be over 18-years-of-age and the holder of either a Master Class Five or Master <35m Certificate of Competency and prospective students are required to contact teachers before enrolling for pre-enrolment screening.

A TAFE NSW Certificate IV or Diploma could give you up 6 to 12 months advanced standing in a university degree and some Advanced Diplomas offer even more credit.
