Do you have a passion for organic produce and an interest in pursuing a career in the production of organic food crops? The Certificate IV in Organic Farming is designed for people who want to develop skills and knowledge to become specialists within the organic farming sector. It is suitable for people currently working or who wish to find employment in an organic farming enterprise.The Certificate combines campus-based learning with site visits to organic organisations which facilitates discussion about the program and provides a rounded understanding of the industry.The coursework will be assessed by practical and written exercises and it is recommended students have horticultural experience and/or employment in organic farming. Due to the nature of the industry, physical fitness is required.

You do need to have, or be able to attain, a level of literacy and numeracy that will help you complete your course and ultimately to work in your chosen field. Students who complete this qualification level will have a broad range of skills and knowledge that can be applied to specialised and/or skilled work areas. They will be able to identify, analyse, compare and act on information from a range of sources and have a limited responsibility for the organisation of others.North Coast TAFE can provide support for reading, writing, maths and English Language. A TAFE NSW Certificate IV or Diploma could give you up 6 to 12 months advanced standing in a university degree and some Advanced Diplomas offer even more credit.

Note: Some short, licensing or compliance courses, eg Food Safety for Supervisors or First Aid are not granted RPL as demonstrated competency is required by regulatory authorities.
