Are you a positive, friendly, independent and responsible person who has a genuine affinity with children? If so, our Certificate IV in School Age Education and Care will qualify you to work as an educator working with school age children in outside school hours care and vacation programs. Our course will allow you to conduct vacation care programs, as well as before and after school care activities for children of school age. In this role you may may work under direct supervision, as part of a team or autonomously. The course is available as a traineeship for eligible, employed applicants. This funding is subsidised by the NSW Government.Work PlacementThis course will require you to complete a total of 120 hours of practical work placement. These hours will be on a volunteer basis, unless you are already employed as an outside school hours care worker, in which case you are more than welcome to use your current workplace and hours to meet the 120 hour requirement.
North Coast TAFE wants you to know that while this qualification has no formal entry requirements, we do want you to succeed, so we are providing information about the skills and knowledge that would help you perform this qualification. You do need to have, or be able to attain, a level of literacy and numeracy that will help you complete your course and ultimately to work in your chosen field. Students who complete this qualification level will have a broad range of skills and knowledge that can be applied to specialised and/or skilled work areas. They will be able to identify, analyse, compare and act on information from a range of sources and have a limited responsibility for the organisation of others.North Coast TAFE can provide support for reading, writing, maths and English Language. Credit for Prior Learning
If you already have skills and knowledge that are relevant to your course, you may be able to apply for credit through articulation, credit transfer or recognition of prior learning. To find out more about applying for credit follow this link

A TAFE NSW Certificate IV or Diploma could give you up 6 to 12 months advanced standing in a university degree and some Advanced Diplomas offer even more credit.
Choosing a TAFE to University Pathway at North Coast TAFE is a great way to get practical ‘job ready’ skills and then gain entry to a university at an advanced stage.

Working with one of our RPL assessors we’ll review your life and work experiences as well as any previous study you may have done to confirm just what we can match up with your current course of study.
Note: Some short, licensing or compliance courses, eg Food Safety for Supervisors or First Aid are not granted RPL as demonstrated competency is required by regulatory authorities.
