Course Number: 10725NAT-01V01 (10725NAT)
10725NAT Course in Preliminary Spoken and Written English is a component of the Certificates in Spoken and Written English (CSWE) English as an additional language (EAL) curriculum framework. It is a foundation course for learners who have no or limited formal schooling, no or limited English and who may not have literacy skills in their first language.
This course is intended to provide participants with the following general education outcomes:
- Learning skills to enter formal learning environments
- English language proficiency at the equivalent of ISLPR® 1-, IELTS 3 or CEFR A1
- English language proficiency to meet performance features ranging between ACSF Pre B and ACSF 1 indicators.

Learners entering this course are identified as absolute beginners with remedial learning needs arising from limited or disrupted schooling.
The minimum entry point against the International Second Language Proficiency Rating (ISLPR) scale is 0 across the four macroskills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The minimum entry point against the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) is Not Yet Achieved.
There are no formalised articulation arrangements in place for this qualification.

A TAFE NSW Certificate IV or Diploma could give you up 6 to 12 months advanced standing in a university degree and some Advanced Diplomas offer even more credit.
