Are you currently preparing for an English language proficiency test? Our course in Preparation for IELTS is for people preparing for a formal test of their English language skills, such as the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or for those wishing to improve in preparation for further study. The course will help you gain English language skills and knowledge, as well as test-taking strategies and practice in how to successfully undertake a formal test in academic speaking, listening, reading and writing. This qualification is part of our suite of English language courses, designed to enable speakers of other languages (including international students, newly arrived migrants, permanent and temporary residents, citizens and visitors) to participate more fully in Australian community life, work and study.Our English language courses are practical, interactive and structured to meet the most essential needs of second language learners. In this course, you will learn:• Writing skills such as writing clear and accurate essays, organising your ideas and using appropriate language;• Reading skills such as skimming, scanning and finding information;• Language skills such as vocabulary and grammar;• Strategies for speaking fluently and accurately;• Strategies for participating in conversations and discussions;• Listening skills such as listening for gist and specific information;• Test-taking and academic strategies such as time management, study techniques and dealing with different topics and tasks.The course is completely online and the resources provided to you will include: • Interactive practice activities in speaking, listening, reading and writing;• A wide variety of listening recordings and reading texts;• Practice tests.Students are supported to develop pathways to work and further vocational training. Your teacher will guide your progress through the online activities, and give you feedback on practice tests. An appropriate level of English language proficiency is required, recommended as upper intermediate or above.
There are no formal educational requirements however An appropriate level of English language proficiency and appropriate visa/citizenship. This is determined by an ESOL teacher at a pre-enrolment interview/assessment.
When you complete this course you will have advanced standing in Certificate III in Advanced English for Further Study and be eligible for university entry and permanent residency.
This is a pre-vocational program and students who successfully complete this course will have developed the English language skills and the test-taking strategies to help them undertake formal tests of their English proficiency, such as those required for entry to university and TAFE courses.
A TAFE NSW Certificate IV or Diploma could give you up 6 to 12 months advanced standing in a university degree and some Advanced Diplomas offer even more credit.
