About the course

Course Number: MARSS00008-01V01

Do you currently work on a marine vessel and want to formalise your qualifications in shipboard safety? The Statement of Attainment in Shipboard Safety Skill Set course is for both recreational and professional seafarers. This course provides practical and theoretical training in safe operations aboard a vessel. You’ll learn how to apply basic survival skills in the event of vessel abandonment, follow procedures to minimise and fight fires on board a vessel, meet work health and safety requirements and survive at sea using survival craft. At TAFE NSW we understand that you may not be able to commit to full time study, so we have developed a range of flexible modes for you to complete this course. Once you successfully complete the Statement of Attainment in Shipboard Safety Skill Set, you will be qualified to work as a Deckhand on a commercial vessel.

Fees

North Coast TAFE offers a wide choice of courses, some that attract government subsidies and some that do not. The fees payable will vary, depending on your personal circumstances, your study history and the course you choose.

Calculate fees

Your government subsidised fee, and your eligibility for concessions, exemptions and scholarships, are all calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

The 2017 subsidised fees indicated on this page are indicative only and based on 2016 fees. The state government may make some small changes to fees and subsidies for 2017 enrolments and we will update our site if and when that happens.
