Course information

About the course

Course Number: 166-10380V02

If you hold a current trade certificate in plumbing and are looking to broaden your skills and work opportunities and maintain current professional development practices, our Statement of Attainment in Backflow Prevention course has been designed to develop the skills and knowledge to test and maintain backflow prevention as requested by Water Authorities. Public health and safety is paramount in regards to drinking water, therefore any backflow prevention devices installed and commissioned must be maintained to the highest standards of efficiency. On completion of the course you will have an understanding of the continuing need to satisfy licensing/legislative requirements.

Practical skill sessions will be integrated with theory lectures throughout the course so students, through hands-on time, will gain detailed knowledge of each device. At the completion of the course, participants will be required to undertake a practical assessment, in which they will identify and test a minimum of three backflow prevention devices. A theory test covering all course topics is also included.

To enrol in this course, you must hold either the Certificate III in Plumbing or a plumbing licence issued by the NSW Fair Trading. Recognised prior learning is available for experienced trades people with extensive industry experience.  This is assessed on a case-by-case basis.

North Coast TAFE offers a wide choice of courses, some that attract government subsidies and some that do not. The fees payable will vary, depending on your personal circumstances, your study history and the course you choose.

Calculate fees

Your government subsidised fee, and your eligibility for concessions, exemptions and scholarships, are all calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

The 2017 subsidised fees indicated on this page are indicative only and based on 2016 fees. The state government may make some small changes to fees and subsidies for 2017 enrolments and we will update our site if and when that happens.
