This course is for people requiring the knowledge and skills to work or seek
employment as a Gas Metal Arc Welder (GMAW) in a metal fabrication
or allied engineering industry.
You will learn the practical skills and techniques associated with the GMAW
process to join materials in all weld positions, heat, cut and gouge materials
to size and shape, interpret engineering drawings and use a variety of hand
and power tools/equipment to fabricate metal components.
This course is designed to accommodate both off-the-job training and
on-the-job training and experiences.
The duration of this program of study will vary depending on the competency
There are no entry requirements for this course.
When you finish this Statement of Attainment you will be eligible to enrol in
other courses in the Metal and Engineering Training Package MEM05.
Completion of competency units in this course will enhance your career
progression under the Federal Metal and Engineering Industries Award.
A TAFE NSW Certificate IV or Diploma could give you up 6 to 12 months advanced standing in a university degree and some Advanced Diplomas offer even more credit.
