About the course

Course Number: 160-17122V01

This course will give students an introduction to the world of contemporary art textiles and the opportunity to get hands on. There are a vast array of textile techniques such as fabric dyeing and printing, shibori (an ancient Japanese craft of dyeing fabric using different shape resist techniques such as tie-dying), batik (utilising a wax resist technique), felting, nuno felting (combining layers of wool through friction), natural dyeing and fibrework. You will get an opportunity to explore some of these techniques in this short course. Throughout the experimental process you will investigate basic design ideas, assess the capabilities of the textile techniques through practice and testing, then continue to adapt and refine as your work progresses. Experienced teacher Jacky Beckhurst has given workshops and had her work represented in touring exhibitions in Australia and internationally for over 20 years.

North Coast TAFE offers a wide choice of courses, some that attract government subsidies and some that do not. The fees payable will vary, depending on your personal circumstances, your study history and the course you choose.

Calculate fees

Your government subsidised fee, and your eligibility for concessions, exemptions and scholarships, are all calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

The 2017 subsidised fees indicated on this page are indicative only and based on 2016 fees. The state government may make some small changes to fees and subsidies for 2017 enrolments and we will update our site if and when that happens.
