Not sure what career to choose? Contact us
From January 2015, every student will need a Unique Student Identifier, known as the ‘USI’. This is a number that is yours for life and is used to track any studies that you complete and give you access to your training records. Think of it as a tax file number for your education. You can read more about how to get your USI and what to do with it from the information below.
You can get your Unique Student Identifier (USI) through the Australian Government Department of Industry website at www.usi.gov.au. When you create your USI you will need to have proof of your identity handy.
Step 1: Make sure you have one of the following documents with you
Step 2: Go to this website www.usi.gov.au
Step 3: Click on the ‘spanner’ icon to create your USI and follow the prompts
Step 4: Give your training provider access to add your training records to your USI
Step 5: Keep your USI in a safe place
Once you have your USI you must ensure you give North Coast TAFE permission to access your records. This is so we can make sure that the results you achieve with us are updated on your records. It will also help if, at some stage in the future, you are seeking credit transfers or recognition of prior learning (RPL).
Step 1: Login to your USI account visiting www.usi.gov.au
Step 2: Click on the ‘graduate cap’ icon to access the Student Login Portal and follow the prompts to log into your account
Step 3: Click on the ‘update’ button to update your current permissions, then click ‘add organisation’
Step 4: Search for “North Coast TAFE” and allow access to your records and click ‘add’. It should appear like this on your screen:
Step 5: Make sure to tick the box next to ‘view and update my details’ and set an expiry date for the permission. We recommend that you set an expiry date for the end of the year that you expect to complete your course. Then press save.
You can visit www.usi.gov.au to find out more about USI.
