Graduating Students Light the Way

A public art project is set to light up the Clarence Valley this weekend, when Banksea’a, a new local business started by three ex-TAFE students, makes use of projected images on some of Grafton’s historic buildings for the 2014 Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award.

Inspired by Sydney’s Vivid Festival, this unique public performance will highlight the JADA and help celebrate the Jacaranda Festival.

“The gallery is working with local film makers, Banksea’a, to present these captivating light shows,” says Clarence Valley Mayor, Richie Williamson.

After working together on their major projects and completing their Diploma of Screen and Media at Grafton TAFE last year, Sammy Lovejoy, Danny Loyden and Maddison Whitford decided to launch their new business in July this year.

“Banksea'a grew out of a passion for making creative films and storytelling,” says Sammy. “Among the three of us we cover a wide range of skills in cinematography, script writing, editing, photography, live performance and visual arts.”

“Light Up The Valley will stop you in the street with delightful JADA images projected on the walls of the Grafton Regional Gallery,” says Sammy.

“Next we move across the river to the Pelican Playhouse during our Culture on the Clarence Festival production, The Other Side. Then finally onto historic Skinner street buildings and onto a front yard music event on a main road in Tucabia. It will be really exciting and everyone should come and see the show.”

People are invited to bring a picnic blanket and some nibbles and enjoy this unusual sensory experience at Market Square, Grafton. Light Up will be accompanied by music by The Ninth Chapter, local 5 piece band Living Proof,  and Brian Winter and band.

All events are free and will be held between 7-9pm.
