Hair Extensions for TAFE

Grafton TAFE now boasts a modern hair and beauty salon and expanded course options for students.

Hairdressing students and apprentices across the Clarence Valley will now have access to a new high quality, purpose built training facility, which has just been completed at the Grafton TAFE Campus.

The new multi-purpose facility provides hairdressing apprentices and beauty students access to new equipment in a fully functional training  salon environment, allowing them to develop real world and industry relevant skills.

Hair and Beauty Teacher Julie-ann Willis says the new facility, along with a number of new hair and beauty course offerings, was reflective of continued growth in the industry.

“Well trained and qualified hair and beauty professionals are always in high demand, not just in local salons, but for students wanting to take these skills with them throughout Australia or around the world.”

“With the launch of this new salon facility, we have openings in our new Certificate II in Hairdressing course starting this month, and are also running a new Certificate III in Beauty Services at Maclean TAFE. This is in addition to our current classes so is very exciting.”

The training facility will allow students to learn in an environment which operates similarly to a real salon. The equipment and products available will also mean students complete their course with current industry skills and experience.

“Our professional products helps us customise class programs to allow students to progress at their own speed, using industry recognized products, while spending  more time in a simulated environment perfecting their skills on paying clients,” says Ms Willis.

“We are also trying to encourage sustainable practise in our industry and reducing our ecological footprint. So in our classes we address issues such as being mindful of the amount of colouring product used, using recyclable foils, implementing biodegradable towels, watching the amount of water each station uses, and making sure lights and equipment have been switched off at the wall.”

The new hair salon facility at Grafton TAFE is open to the public on Monday 8th and Monday 15th September, so come in and see the equipment, staff and students at work.
