North Coast TAFE is celebrating NAIDOC week at events in July

North Coast TAFE, including the Aboriginal Learning Circle, are celebrating NAIDOC week from July 5 – 12. North Coast TAFE campuses will celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by participating in a number of events and activities held in local Aboriginal communities.

NAIDOC is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history and achievements. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal community.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ unique and timeless connection to land is the special focus and theme of this year’s National NAIDOC Week celebrations. The theme – We all Stand on Sacred Ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate – highlights Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ strong spiritual and cultural connection to land and sea.

“We are so excited to be celebrating NAIDOC Week and getting involved in community events” said Heather McGregor, Director, Aboriginal Learning Circle at North Coast TAFE. “It is one of the most significant weeks in our calendar and it’s great to see so many people, both Aboriginal and non Aboriginal, getting involved in recognising the contributions that Aboriginal people make to our region, and acknowledging the strong culture, language and identity of our communities”.

“North Coast TAFE and the Aborginal Learning Circle encourage all Australians to embrace the NAIDOC Week theme” said Ms McGregor. “We are committed to incorporating learning, respect and celebration into all our work with Aboriginal students and communities, it’s something that’s continuous beyond the special focus in this week”.

North Coast TAFE understands and values Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders education and encourages local communities to get on board with the NAIDOC activities that are taking place in their area.
