North Coast TAFE students dominate in major regional training awards

Five North Coast TAFE students were winners in the 2015 North Coast Training Awards, held at the Byron Theatre, Byron Bay on Friday 12 June.

The Awards, which recognise outstanding achievement in vocational education and training on the North Coast from Taree to Tweed Heads, are part of the NSW Training Awards.

The North Coast Apprentice of the Year was Kelly Bryant, who studied her Certificate III in Butchery through Lismore TAFE Campus, while the North Coast Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year was Jessica Maher, who studied Certificate IV in Community Services through Taree TAFE Campus. Both Kelly and Jessica will now go on to compete in the NSW State Training Awards.

The North Coast Vocational Student of the Year award went to Kempsey Campus student Bernadette O’Sullivan, who successfully studied the Certificate IV in Business Administration and Catherine Slater received the North Coast Achievement Award for her efforts in recovering from significant health issues and gaining her Certificate III in Aged Care through Grafton TAFE Campus.

Automotive apprentice Matthew Thomas received the Norm Beaton Memorial Award for his achievements in the Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology - Light Vehicle, which he studied through Taree TAFE Campus.
