Student support

Helping you make the most of your ability

At TAFE NSW we understand that every student has individual needs and we want to help you make the most of your ability.

If you are living with an injury, disability or health conditions such as deafness or hearing impairment, intellectual disability, physical disability and vision impairment, mental health, autism or a learning disability we can provide specialist support for your learning journey.

The decision to take on study is a big one –if you’re ready to have a go, we want to be there for you right from when you enrol to help you take advantage of every opportunity.

By letting us know about your disability or additional learning needs at the time you enrol, we will be able to make sure you find the right course, get the right support, and we may even be able to save you money on your fees!

If you’re not sure if you have a disability or need additional support, don’t worry, you can talk to our Support Service Counsellors who can help you work this out.

Why it is important to tell us about your needs when you enrol

It is important to tell us if you have (or think you may have) a disability or additional learning need before or when you enrol because we want to save you money on your fees.

This opportunity to save is only available at the time you enrol – so we want to make sure you claim it!

Here are three great reasons to let us know about your disability or additional learning needs when you enrol:

  1. You may be eligible for an exemption (you pay nothing) or a concession (you pay a reduced amount) on your course fee.

From 2016, eligible students with a disability and eligible students who are the dependants of Disability Support Pension recipients will be exempt from fees for any Smart and Skilled qualification they undertake, regardless of the number of qualifications in which they enrol or the level of the qualification.
  2. You’ll get the right support – right from the start - to achieve study success.
  3. Our support services are free and confidential and available to both enrolled and prospective students.
